July 1, 2011 Trinity Strand Trail seeking construction bids very soon!

The City of Dallas will seek bids for the construction of a hike-and-bike trail along the old Trinity River channel -- a project that local businesses say will enliven the industrial area with restaurants, residences and foot traffic.

What an exciting day for Trinity Strand Trail! Our press conference with Mayor Tom Leppert and Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Pauline Medrano (also the Councilmember for our district) showcased a major milestone for our project... the completion of Turtle Creek Plaza. After years of hard work, not to mention the dedication and determination of many special friends, supporters and contributors, we were able to celebrate this great accomplishment.

Thank you to the many supporters and friends of the Trinity Strand Trail. With your help, we are now even closer to making the vision of Trinity Strand Trail a reality!!

Dr. Gail Thomas, president of the Trinity Trust Foundation, welcomed several dozen invited guests, including media representatives, to their offices in Dallas' Design District for a lunch that included a presentation about their ongoing projects.

December 18, 2009 Debbie Fetterman writes about the Jingle Bell Run and Trinity Strand Trail in "Jingle Bell Run shakes off four years of rust"

The Jingle Bell Run, one of Dallas' most festive running events, returns Tuesday night after a four-year absence. The revived 5K and 1-mile runs will start and finish at the Hilton Anatole and wind through the Dallas Design District with a postrace party at the Anatole.

Our executive director traveled to Austin to speak at the Texas! Bringing Healthy Back/Obesity Prevention Partner Meeting and Summit. Shelly presented “Trinity Strand Trail Building 101” which told the story of the Trinity Strand Trail since its beginning in 2002, the formation of the Friends group, the steps that Trinity Strand Trail took in planning, design and construction of the trail, and the role of the nonprofit organization in a community project. As a complement to the conference, a few short documentaries were made highlighting projects in Texas that promote healthy community-wide changes. Trinity Strand Trail was one of the featured projects, and there is great footage of our future trail. Just click on the section “Increasing Physical Activity” and take a look!

In fact, one of the plan's proposed walking paths, the Trinity Strand Trail, will follow the beds where the Trinity once meandered, cross Monitor just steps from the Studios 1019 front door and eventually intersect Uptown's Katy Trail. October 31, 2007 Donated land will link Trinity Strand and Katy systems

A "missing link" between the Katy Trail and the Trinity River is missing no more. On Tuesday, Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert announced the donation of a key piece of property - near the defunct Baby Doe's Matchless Mine restaurant off Harry Hines Boulevard - to connect the Katy Trail with the Trinity Strand Trail, which is being developed along the old course of the Trinity River, just outside the river's eastern levee.

Thanks to David Demarest, Brian Keith, John Snowden, Miguel Otero Jimenez, and Mike Kutner for setting out the survey flags marking the future path of the trail. After some clearing and mowing, signs will be placed to let people walk or off-road bike the path from the Victory Overlook to Wycliff.

March 19, 2005 Trinity Levee Trails Enhance the View

The City of Dallas City Council, Dallas Off Road Bicycle Association and the Cross Country Club of Dallas have officially opened the Trinity Levee Top Trail, about 6 miles along Dallas' stretch of the Trinity River. Trailheads can be found at both ends of the Northbound lane of the Westmoreland bridge, or enter the trail from Crow.
