Trinity Strand Trail Project Awarded by Parks and Recreation Board:
The construction contract for Phase 1 of the Trinity Strand Trail was awarded at the Parks and Recreation Board Meeting on January 12, 2012. The contract will now go to city council for vote...we will let you know when!
Phase 1 construction consists of almost two miles of concrete trail along the old Trinity River Channel, traveling from Market Center to Farrington Street. This path winds through the Dallas Design District and extends near the Southwestern Medical District. Each piece of property on Phase 1 has been generously donated to the City by area landowners, and we hope to begin construction in spring/summer 2012.
We will continue to update you on our progress as we start to build, so check back occasionally for status updates!

Trinity Strand Trail/Katy Trail Master Plan Completed:
The Trinity Strand Trail/Katy Trail Connection is a joint trail project between Trinity Strand Trail and Katy Trail. This project will connect 3.5 miles of Katy Trail with almost 8 miles of Trinity Strand Trail. The "Connection" will begin at Katy Trail's Victory Overlook and travel over Houston Street, through Stemmons Park and underneath Stemmons Freeway and Oak Lawn Avenue, and will connect with the concrete spine of Trinity Strand Trail on the old Trinity River channel. The Connection will also serve as an accessory connection to a future city park that will function as a landscaped gateway in the area.
When complete, this trail will join Uptown, downtown, the Dallas Design District, Southwestern Medical District, the Infomart, Stemmons Corridor businesses and hotels in the area. The Master Plan for the Connection is complete and 50% of the schematic design and 75% of the hydrology studies are complete.

Turtle Creek Plaza Completed:
What an exciting day for Trinity Strand Trail! On May 18, 2010, we held a press conference with Mayor Tom Leppert and Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Pauline Medrano (also the Councilmember for our district) to showcase a major milestone for our project... the completion of Turtle Creek Plaza. After years of hard work, not to mention the dedication and determination of many special friends, supporters and contributors, we were able to celebrate this great accomplishment.
There are many features that make Turtle Creek Plaza special. We have incorporated two informational kiosks into the plaza, one with a map of the trail and the other with the history of the project. In addition, we have commemorative engraved bricks placed throughout the surface of the plaza. Most importantly, we have installed a 14' 7" I-beam representing the height of the Trinity River during the 1908 flood.
The design of Turtle Creek Plaza, including the bright blue sculpture and several additional unique elements, mirrors the look and style of other environmental art in the Design District, where the plaza is located. These design elements also give Turtle Creek Plaza a special charm and aesthetic appeal. Please visit our plaza at 1271 Turtle Creek, between Irving Boulevard and Market Center to see for yourself!
Thank you to the many supporters and friends of the Trinity Strand Trail. With your help, we are now even closer to making the vision of Trinity Strand Trail a reality!
